About us

Meet our network

Members of our network include hematologists, neonatologists, transfusion specialists, blood bank agents, researchers, nurse practitioners, statisticians, epidemiologists, and parent representatives. Our international and interdisciplinary steering board, supported by a team of junior scientists, is responsible for designing and setting up new clinical and fundamental research studies, quality improvement projects, and the coordination of NTN activities.

Our mission

Better blood for babies!

We aim to optimize and individualize neonatal transfusion practices by performing clinical and translational research projects, and developing open access tools to bridge the evidence-practice gap through our collaborative, interdisciplinary, international network. This is needed, because blood transfusions are frequently administered to preterm infants, whilst the efficacy and safety of many of these transfusions are unknown. The number of high-quality clinical trials in neonates is limited and many questions regarding the dosing, timing, and product specifications remain. In addition, large variation in clinical practice exists. Therefore, it is our mission to optimize neonatal transfusion practices and bridge the evidence-practice gap to ensure better blood for babies!
